Heather, What a great post! Change strategies do not have to be over complex. Just like with the back to school activities, change programs should target early demos/visibility to what's changing, provide an opportunity for teams to share feedback and close any skill gaps, finally their should be ample support available through a buddy system or "change network."
However, to get back to your final question - I thought of the pre-collegiate training program my daughter participated in during her senior year of High School. She was the recipient of the Posse Foundation college scholarship, which requires 8 months of pre-collegiate training. With her Posse of 10, she was required to attend weekly sessions to discuss current issues, engage in team building activities and develop their writing and organization skills. The objective was to send 10 students off to college, who were not just academically prepared but also emotionally prepared for moving away from home. And when one struggled with the transition to college, they worked as a network of change agents to help support one another.
